You also must consider the type of screen you want. Manual pull-down screens are simple to use and relatively inexpensive. Fixed screens mount directly to the wall and can’t be adjusted or moved. Motorized screens drop down and retract electronically, and are usually remote-controlled. Adjustable aspect ratio screens are motorized, and can be adjusted vertically and horizontally to be compatible with multiple aspect ratios. These are the most versatile screens. To pick the best screen for your home entertainment center, you should carefully consider where you want to place it and how much room you have available, in addition to what kind of screen you want.
Before having your projector installed, you should consider placement. The options are ceiling mount or shelf mount projector installations. A ceiling-mounted projector attaches to the ceiling with a hanging bracket, and is convenient because you don’t have to take up floor space with a cabinet to house the projector. A shelf-mount projector installation is not as complex, as it mostly just means setting it on a shelf, connecting it to the A/V components, and plugging it in, but is important to set it up the correct distance from the screen, for optimum projecting quality. This is why we recommend a professional installation.
QUICK TIP
When shopping for a screen, be sure to select a screen with the same aspect ratio as your projector. The aspect ratio will be clearly marked in the product specs for both your projector and screen. If you get a projector with a 4:3 aspect ratio, be sure to get a compatible screen to go with it. The most common aspect ratio is 16:9, and this is standard for HDTV, widescreen DVD, and Blu-Ray.
